The 18th Annual Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is packed with entertainment and fun for all ages and will also encourage healthy, active lifestyle for kids, highlighted by a special appearance from First Lady Michelle Obama.
Expected to be introduced by world No. 1 and reigning US Open Champion Serena Williams, the First Lady will take the stage during the ticketed stadium show to encourage youngsters and their families to get healthy and get active – an extension of her campaign since becoming First lady in 2009.
The First Lady leads Let’s Move!, a comprehensive initiative dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. The USTA enthusiastically supports the Let’s Move! goal to raise a healthier generation of kids.
"We are thrilled the First Lady will be joining us at Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, the largest single-day, grass-roots tennis and entertainment event in the world," said Dave Haggerty, USTA Chairman, CEO and President. "Her message of leading a healthy lifestyle is the perfect fit for this action-packed program that celebrates the life and values of tennis legend and humanitarian Arthur Ashe."
The all-star lineup for the show includes the that chart-topping singer Ariana Grande, rising star Austin Mahone, spirited teen sensation Coco Jones, breakout UK band Lawson and Swedish DJ duo Cazzette, all of whom will team up with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, five-time champion Roger Federer and World No. 1 wheelchair tennis champion David Wagner. The show will be hosted by AAKD alumnus Missy Franklin and TV personality Quddus.
Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, and will kick off the 2013 US Open. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., kids and their families can enjoy an exciting schedule of free tennis games, live music and attractions taking place throughout the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Inside Arthur Ashe Stadium from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the live tennis and music show will feature fun exhibition matches and skill competitions. USTA 10 and Under Tennis spokesperson, Nickelodeon’s Jeff Sutphen, will also take part in the action.
